About Project Gigabit and Hyperfast GB
Project Gigabit is the UK government’s rollout of fast, reliable broadband across the UK.
The programme targets homes and businesses that are not included in broadband companies’ commercial plans, reaching parts of the country that would otherwise miss out.
Project Gigabit is essential in kickstarting economic growth, with new digital infrastructure delivering better-paid jobs, boosting productivity and creating wealth and opportunity right across the country.
Fibrus has been selected to deliver a £150 million broadband improvement contract for Cumbria to bring next generation broadband services to up to 60,000 homes and businesses that might have otherwise missed out on gigabit upgrades.
A FULL FIBRE SOLUTION
A full fibre solution, capable of offering speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second will be delivered in the target intervention area.
CONNECTING CUMBRIAN COMMUNITIES
Deployment of the new infrastructure in Cumbria has already commenced, and implementation will run until the end of 2027. The government investment, combined with Fibrus’ substantial investment in network build costs, will help transform the broadband connectivity landscape for many citizens and businesses across rural towns, villages and hamlets in Cumbria.
